| Macedonia: Low awareness but willingness to improve ethnic participation |

More than 300 representatives from the civil and government sectors took part in training sessions organized in 12 municipalities over the last 18 months to improve citizen and ethnic minority participation in local government. There was general agreement about low awareness of the existence and competencies of commissions for minority rights, but very encouraging signs of both openness and cooperation between local government and NGOs.
